Troy Travels to Take On Arkansas State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as it travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to face Arkansas State in a three-game conference series set to begin on Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's game is also scheduled for 6 p.m. while Sunday's finale is set for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will be broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM and streamed live on TroyTrojans.com.

The Trojans (21-27, 8-15 SBC) are coming off three defeats at the hands of Texas State last weekend and are looking to break a four-game skid. Troy currently sits ninth in the Sun Belt Conference standings and needs to jump a spot to qualify for the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championships.

Arkansas State (27-21, 18-9) lost two of three games to #3 UL Lafayette and are tied for second in the league with Texas State. ASU has dropped four of its last six league games.

Leading the charge for the Red Wolves offensively is Matt Burgess. The sophomore is leading the team in average (.321) and RBIs (49). Outfielder Austin Baker is a dual threat leading the club in home runs (6) and stolen bases (11).

David Hall paces Troy in average (.357), home runs (9) and RBIs (41). Jakob Nixon enters the series on an eight-game hitting streak and batting .382 over the team's last 10 games.

On the mound for the Trojans in Friday's opener is the conference's strikeout leader, Shane McCain. The senior southpaw is 3-4 on the season with a 3.53 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 79 innings of work. As a staff, Troy pitchers continue to lead the league in strikeout with 368.

Tanner Hicks (2-8, 4.72) is slated to toe the rubber on Saturday while sophomore Levi Tate (2-0, 4.23) has been tabbed to make his second start of the season on Sunday.

The Trojans will face RHP David Owen (5-4, 3.94) on Friday, RHP Bradley Wallace (3-4, 4.04) on Saturday and LHP Chandler Hawkins (3-5, 5.98) on Sunday.

Troy leads the all-time series with Arkansas State 24-6 including a perfect 12-0 mark in Jonesboro.
