TROY, Ala. – Former Troy University track & field standout student-athlete Tawanna Meadows won a gold medal in the women's 4x200m relay at the inaugural IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, over the weekend.
Â
"We had to be patient and the tape is there for a reason," Meadows told reporters following the race. "The mishaps with the men's team, it put everyone in focus to want to execute and get the handoffs down together."
Â
Meadows ran the second leg of the 4x200m relay in the only World Championship of the 2014 outdoor season. The team of Meadows, Shalonda Solomon, Bianca Knight and Kimberlyn Duncan posted a time of 1:29.45 to claim the gold medal.Â
Â
Meadows is one of the most decorated track & field athletes in Troy history as she still holds school records in the 4x100m relay (45.40), 4x200m relay (1:37.49), sprint medley relay (3:59.84), 100m dash (11.26) and 200m dash (23.14).
Â
A NCAA Championship qualifier in 2008, Meadows was named the Sun Belt Conference Female Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year and the Sun Belt Conference Female Indoor Track & Field Co-Performer of the Year that same year.Â
Â
Meadows, a native of Panama City, Fla., competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials and went on to win gold in the 100m later that summer at the NACAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Mexico.
