TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team fell to South Alabama, 7-3, at Riddle-Pace Field on Saturday in its regular season finale. The Trojans will enter next week's Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championships as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed Arkansas State at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Stanky Field in Mobile.

The Jaguars also clinched its berth in the tournament; they will play as the No. 7 seed against No. 2 UT Arlington.

The Trojans fell behind early as South Alabama an unearned run in the third inning courtesy of two Troy errors. The Jags plated three more in the fourth. Ali Knowles got the Trojans on the board with a two-RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.

Troy trailed 7-2 after South Alabama plated three in the sixth. Garrett Pitts doubled to left-center to score Jakob Nixon and give the Trojans its final run of the game. Nixon finished the game 2-for-4 and extended his reached base streak to 15 games.

Jaguars starter Kevin Hill was nearly unhittable as he fanned 14 Troy batters and surrendered just four hits in pitching the complete game.

11 seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony. William Shell, Robert Price, Justin Hancock, Tanner Hicks, Garrett Pitts, Matthew Howard, Austin Sullivan, Jakob Nixon, Ali Knowles, Tyler Vaughn and Shane McCain all took part in their final game at Riddle-Pace Field.

Troy will play in its ninth consecutive Sun Belt Conference tournament since it joined the league in 2006. The Trojans fell in two out of three games at Arkansas State seven days ago.

In 2010, Troy entered the Sun Belt Tournament as the No. 6 seed and won four games en route to a championship game berth before falling to Florida International.
