TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team travels to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State in a Sun Belt Conference series set to begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's 3 p.m. game will be televised on the Sun Belt Network (CSS/CST). Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will be broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM with live audio streaming on TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (21-24, 8-12 SBC) had its game against UAB cancelled on Tuesday due to weather. Texas State (24-21, 12-9) is coming off a 9-2 loss to Texas A&M.
David Hall continues to lead Troy offensively and built on his category advantage last weekend against UT Arlington by belting his ninth home run – a grand slam – and upping his RBI total to 40 for the year. Hall is batting .366 on the season, the highest mark on the squad.
Utility player Jakob Nixon has played well of late, batting .444 (8-for-18) with five runs scored and three RBIs over his last five games. Marc Skinner also turned in a quality week of work; pitching 6 1/3 scoreless innings while picking up his fourth save of the season on Saturday. Trevin Hall ended his week on a high note by finishing Sunday's contest with three hits including his sixth home run.
Garrett Mattiage has performed at a high level for the Bobcats. The junior shortstop is batting .324 with eight home runs, 35 RBIs and 11 stolen bases – all team highs.
The pitching staff has also been a strength for Texas State with a 3.63 ERA posted as a team. Austen Williams (6-1, 3.11) will start Friday's opener, Taylor Black (4-4, 3.12) is scheduled to pitch on Saturday and Lucas Humpal (3-4, 3.31) will get the ball on Sunday.
The Trojans will shake up their rotation a bit as Shane McCain (3-3, 3.21) will be pushed up a day to pitch Friday. Tanner Hicks (2-7, 4.97) will take over Saturday duties and Ben Tidwell (1-1, 3.50) will take over on Sunday.
As a staff, Troy pitchers lead the conference with 348 strikeouts; Texas State is second with 328. Individually, McCain continues to head the conference with 78 strikeouts and his 73 innings trails only Taylor Black, who has pitched 75.
