TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team will make the trek north to face UALR in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series over the weekend. The teams will kick off the series on Friday at 6 p.m. then continue on Saturday at 4 p.m. before playing the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on WTBF 94.7 FM and streamed on TroyTrojans.com.
The Trojans (19-18, 6-8 SBC) are coming off a series win over Western Kentucky last weekend. Troy used a five-run eighth inning in game two and a six-run fourth inning in game three to pull away with a pair of victories.
David Hall continues to pace the Trojans offence, especially in conference play. In 14 Sun Belt games, the junior is batting .466 (27-for-58) with a pair of home runs and 15 RBIs. Second baseman Garrett Pitts has been solid all season at the dish, but has cranked it up a notch of late batting .462 with five doubles and nine runs scored in his last ten games. Ben Tidwell turned in a stellar week on the mound for the Trojans out of the bullpen tossing 12 1/3 innings allowing just two run and earning his first career save and win.
UALR (14-20, 3-12) was swept at UL Lafayette over the weekend but rebounded to defeat Louisiana Tech, 7-6 on Tuesday. UALR is just 3-10 in its last 10 contests.
Senior Ben Crumpton heads the Trojans offense with a .340 average, 26 stolen bases and .409 on-base percentage. Tanner Rockwell leads the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (27).
Troy will go with its usual Friday-Saturday, 1-2 punch of Tanner Hicks and Shane McCain. Sunday's starter has yet to be determined.
Hicks (2-6, 4.15) is looking to rebound from a rough outing against WKU in which he allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. McCain (3-3, 2.95) labored a bit as well against the Hilltoppers but battled to complete seven innings on the hill surrendering four runs.
UALR will send freshman Cory Malcom to the bump on Friday. Malcom (1-0, 3.24) last pitched on Sun day against UL Lafayette in a relief role giving up two runs in 1 1/3 innings. The right-hander has made nine appearances on the season with one start.
Sophomore Sam Thoele (0-2, 2.49) will get the nod on Saturday while Cameron Allen (3-3, 4.00) will take the mound in Sunday's finale.
