Troy Travels to Atlanta to Face Georgia State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team returns to Sun Belt Conference action as they travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) at the GSU Baseball Complex. The series will continue on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude on Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM and streamed live on TroyTrojans.com.

Troy (14-11, 3-2 SBC) is coming off a midweek defeat to Alabama. The game was played at a sold-out Bayfront Stadium in Pensacola. The crowd of 5,038 was the largest to watch the Trojans play this season.

Georgia State (12-14, 1-5) played a pair of midweek games against Alabama A&M, winning by scores of 19-3 and 19-6.

Anchoring the Panthers lineup is first baseman Nic Wilson. The senior from Decatur, Ga., is tied for the NCAA lead with 12 home runs. Wilson is batting .418 on the season with 36 RBIs and 10 doubles. As a team, Georgia State is fourth nationally in long balls (30), Troy ranks sixth (25). The Panthers are second in the league in batting with a .303 team average.

The Trojans will go with its usual rotation of Tanner Hicks on Friday, Shane McCain on Saturday and Ben Tidwell on Sunday. Hicks (2-3, 2.66) tossed six innings in his last outing against ULM. McCain followed with six strong innings on Saturday earning his sixth quality start in as many outings. He is one of just 12 pitchers nationally to start the season with six consecutive quality starts. Combined, Hicks and McCain have pitched at least six innings in each of their 12 combined starts.

Ben Tidwell will get the nod on Sunday; it will be his fourth start of the season. Tidwell (0-0, 2.96) went four innings against ULM last week; he struck out four batters and allowed two runs on four hits.

At the plate, David Hall leads the club with a .375 average and eight doubles. Three players are tied for the team lead with five home runs – David Hall, Jo-El Bennett and Trevin Hall. Nick Masonia joins David and Trevin Hall with 17 RBIs on the season.

On the mound Friday for Georgia State will be LHP Kenny Anderson (2-2, 4.99). The junior has pitched 30.2 innings in five starts allowing 17 earned runs. RHP Nathan Bates (0-1, 8.44) is scheduled to make his fourth start of the year on Saturday with LHP Andrew Fessler (1-3, 7.53) taking the ball in Sunday's finale.
