TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team will return to action as Sun Belt Conference foe ULM visits Riddle-Pace Field for a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM and streamed live on TroyTrojans.com.
Â
The Trojans (12-9, 1-1 Sun Belt) fell to Jacksonville State on Tuesday but rebounded to pick up a pair of wins over Alabama State on Wednesday. Troy knocked off the Hornets by identical 8-5 scores. The teams completed a suspended game from March 11 before playing a regularly scheduled game.
Â
ULM (7-15, 0-3) fell to Southern Miss on Tuesday, 18-2, after being swept by Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend. The Warhawks are struggling in all three phases as they are last in the Sun Belt Conference in team batting average (.216), ERA (5.85) and fielding percentage (.943).
Â
Justin Stawychny leads ULM in batting average (.286) and doubles (6) while Dalton Herrington heads the club in RBI (11) and stolen bases (11). Junior right-hander Chris Hunt will likely get the start in Friday's opener. Hunt is 1-1 on the season with a 2.66 ERA. Senior southpaw Chad Miller (2-0, 4.23) will take the ball in game two while right-handed sophomore Alex Hermeling (0-2, 4.03) will man the bump in Sunday's finale.
Â
Troy scored at least eight runs in consecutive games for the first time this season in the wins over Alabama State. Led by Jo-El Bennett, who finished 3-for-3, the Trojans scored four runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Hornets. Bennett hit his fourth home run of the year and Matthew Howard his second in the second game. Troy has now hit 21 home runs in as many games this season and are second in the conference in the category.
Â
Seniors Tanner Hicks (2-2, 2.13) and Shane McCain (3-1, 1.06) will start game one and two, respectfully. The dynamic duo is 17-3 combined at home for their careers. McCain has recorded a quality start in each of his last six outings while Hicks has accomplished the feat in four of five starts this season. Left-hander Ben Tidwell (0-0, 2.66) is scheduled to make his third start of the season. He threw 58 pitches on Wednesday as he started the second game and went 3 1/3 innings.
Â
Trevin Hall (.325) leads the team in batting while Garrett picks tops the squad with six doubles and 15 RBIs. As a team, the Trojans have recorded six multi-home run games; four players are tied for the team lead with four long balls each.
Â
The series will continue at 6 p.m. on Saturday and conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
