TROY, Ala. – To say Troy right fielder David Hall has started the 2014 season on a hot streak would be an understatement. With a 4-for-4 combined effort in two games on Saturday, the junior from Fort Pierce, Fla., has reached base in 13 consecutive plate appearances in the first three games of a four-game series against Northern Kentucky. The Trojans (2-1) split a doubleheader with the Norse (1-2) on Saturday. Troy won the first game 6-2, but fell in the nightcap, 6-5.
Â
Through three games, Hall is 7-for-7 at the plate with a pair of home runs, five walks and has been hit by a pitch once. Hall hit a solo homer in the season-opener Friday night and continued his hot hitting on Saturday by blasting a two-run shot in Game 2.
Â
The middle of the batting lineup has thrived thus far for the Trojans; Trevin Hall continued to swing a hot stick with solo home runs in each game of the doubleheader. The junior from Sneads, Fla., is now 6-for-16 (.375). Junior first baseman Kyle Brown is 5-for-10 through three games.
Â
Shane McCain (1-0) got his first start of the season in Game 1, picking up the win. He pitched six strong innings allowing just one run on five hits, two walks and struck out nine.
Â
Leading 3-2 in the seventh, Troy opened the lead to 6-2 taking advantage of a pair of Northern Kentucky errors. Nick Masonia recorded his first hit as a Trojan, a single in the fifth inning. After striking out the side in his only inning of work on Friday, freshman Marc Skinner was solid again in working the ninth of Game 1 picking up a strikeout. All told, eight Trojans have made their debuts this weekend.
Â
Troy and Northern Kentucky will conclude their four-game series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
