McCain Named Preseason All-Sun Belt, Troy Picked Third in Preseason Poll

TROY, Ala. – Troy senior pitcher Shane McCain was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team and the Trojans were picked to finish third in the league in a vote by the Sun Belt coaches, the league office announced on Monday.

McCain, who was named 2013 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year last season, finished 9-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 starts. The senior southpaw was the second pitcher in the last three seasons to be named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year (Tyler Ray, 2011).

The Fort Pierce, Fla., native struck out 105 batters, ninth in Troy single-season history, while walking just 18. He earned Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors last season following his outing against Southeastern Louisiana, pitching seven innings and allowing one run off of three hits.

Troy will open the 2014 season at Riddle-Pace Field with a four-game series against Northern Kentucky on Feb. 14-16.
