SAN MARCOS, Texas – A career-night by Wes Hinton wasn't enough, as Troy (7-13, 2-6 SBC) fell at Texas State (6-14, 2-5 SBC), 73-65, on Saturday afternoon at the Strahan Coliseum. Hinton dropped 24 points, including shooting 9-of-9 from the line.

"The difference in that game was pretty obvious," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "They were just so much more physical. They were just bigger and stronger and it took a toll throughout the game."

Troy trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half, but cut the lead to just five inside the final two minutes. The Bobcats hit their free throws down the stretch to close out the ball game.

Hinton was consistent all night, scoring 12 points in each half. He hit 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and 6-of-12 shots overall. Hinton also tied for the team lead with six rebounds.

Troy came out slow to start the second half, seeing the four point deficit grow to 14 points.

The Trojans shot 38 percent (19-of-50) from the field and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from range. Troy opened the game up hitting 6-of-9 shots from deep in the first half.

Troy was outrebounded for the second straight game and just the second time in conference play, 33-30.

The first half belonged to Tevin Calhoun, as he scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the opening frame. Troy trailed Texas State 36-32 at the break.

Troy gets next Thursday off before taking on Arkansas State on Saturday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans defeated the Red Wolves in their first meeting this season, 98-84, in Jonesboro earlier this month. Tevin Calhoun was tremendous in the win, scoring 35 points, including seven 3's.
