Rewriting the record books
Troy's high offensive output against Savannah State on Saturday eclipsed or tied school high-water marks in several statistical categories.
The Trojans 66 points are the most since a 66-7 win over Charleston Southern in 1995 and the first time Troy has passed the 60-point mark since a 65-0 victory over Alcon State in 2008.
Corey Robinson (four) and Dallas Tidwell (two) combined to throw six touchdown passes to tie a single-game school record. Previous Troy teams accomplished the feat in 1967 and 1968.
Several Trojans get firsts
Troy reserve quarterback Dallas Tidwell completed his first collegiate pass, a 6-yard strike to Trey Page. Tidwell, a sophomore, would later throw his first touchdown pass to Brett Thiesen. Coincidentally, it was also Thiesen's first career reception.
Bryan Holmes caught his first career touchdown in the third quarter, a 39-yard reception from Corey Robinson. Nick McLaughlin also hauled in not only his first pass but his first touchdown with an 8-yard scoring grab from Tidwell in the fourth quarter.
Eli Canton picked off his first career pass in the fourth quarter and returned it 78 yards for his first touchdown.
A 2-yard run with 2:34 left in the third quarter would give Daron White his first career score.
Scott booms only punt of night
Troy punter Will Scott only punted once on Saturday but he got his money's worth. On fourth down from Troy's 9 yard line midway through the second quarter, Scott blasted a 59-yard punt that Savannah State returner Simon Heyward could only watch fly over his head. The ball would roll all the way to the Tigers 32.
It would be the longest punt of Scott's career, surpassing his 58-yard punt against Middle Tennessee in the regular season finale last year. He also had a 57-yard punt against Western Kentucky on October 11, 2012.
Troy offense outguns ROTC
The Trojan offense caused problems for Savannah State's defense on Saturday, but the Troy ROTC as well. The group that fires a shot from the cannon every time Troy scores ran into a small problem… they ran out of ammo.
The handful of members that man the cannon were forced to pack up early due to the numerous touchdowns scored by Troy's offense.
Robinson grabs another record
On top of owning nearly every Troy passing record, quarterback Corey Robinson added his name atop another Sun Belt category. Robinson set the conference's record for career pass attempts with 1,453. He finished Saturday's game 17-for-19.
Robinson set three Sun Belt Conference records in Troy's win over UAB last week. The senior set new SBC marks for pass completions and yards. He is third on the league's touchdown passes list and second in total offensive yards.
