Top-Seeded Troy Draws No. 8 Arkansas State in Sun Belt Tournament Opener

TROY, Ala. – Sun Belt Conference Champion Troy will open the Sun Belt Tournament in Lafayette, La., on Wednesday against No. 8 seed Arkansas State. First pitch for the Trojans and Red Wolves is set for 12:30 p.m. at Tigue Moore Field.
Troy and South Alabama finished the season tied with a 20-10 Sun Belt record after the Trojans won 2-of-3 games in Mobile over the 18th-ranked Jaguars this past weekend. Troy earned the No. 1 seed due to the Sun Belt tiebreaker rules.
The Trojans (39-16, 20-10) and Red Wolves (26-29, 12-18) played two weeks ago in Riddle-Pace Field and one run decided all three games. Troy won the opening two games of the series in extra innings and Arkansas State held off a furious Troy rally in the finale to win 15-14 after the Red Wolves jumped out to a 14-1 advantage.
The winner of the Troy and Arkansas State game will play the winner of the No. 4 Florida Atlantic and No. 5 Western Kentucky contest at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The loser of the two opening round games will meet in an elimination game on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Troy is 14-10 all-time in the Sun Belt Tournament and the Trojans have won eight of their last 12 tournament games.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament gets underway Tuesday with Family Night beginning at 6:45 p.m. The All-Sun Belt teams will be announced, Troy will receive its trophy for winning the regular season championship, junior catcher Justin Hancock will take part in the home run derby and there will be a fireworks show.
