TROY, Ala. – The Troy University track and field team hosts the 2013 Coach “O” Invitational on Friday and Saturday this week at the Jesse H. Colley Track. The Trojans will be competing against 14 other schools and numerous individuals in this, their final meet before heading to the Sun Belt Championships in two weeks.
"Obviously any opportunity you get to sleep in your own bed and have great competition is always great," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "Being so close to finals and to not have to worry about the stresses of traveling is always good especially when you have good competition at home. That always produces great results for our athletes. It's going to be emotional for our large class of seniors competing in their final home meet."
Action kicks off on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. with the women's pole vault and the men's hammer throw. The men's pole vault and the women's hammer throw will follow.
Competition resumes on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with several field events. Track events begin at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday.
The 13th annual Coach “O” Invitational is named for former Trojan athlete, coach and administrator Charles “Coach “O”” Oliver. Coach “O” is the owner operator of Bags by Coach “O”, an affordable apparel company that specializes in track gear. Bags by Coach “O” also sponsors several meets throughout the year. Coach “O” was a dominant athlete while at Troy State, as he still holds the school record in the 400-meter dash at 45.74 seconds, set in 1976.
