TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will look to wrap up seeding in next week's Sun Belt Championships when it hosts South Alabama on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m. at Trojan Arena as the Trojans will honor their three seniors, Aarika Howard, Sophie Kleeman and Sarah McAppion, before the game.
Live stats and live video will be available through TroyTrojans.com. Fans can also hear the game in Troy on WTBF 94.7 FM.
Troy (6-21, 3-16) comes in after a Thursday night loss to Sun Belt regular season champion Middle Tennessee. The Trojans would currently be the No.10 seed in the Sun Belt Championships which begin next Friday. A Troy win or a Louisiana-Lafayette loss would guarantee the Trojans the 10th seed.
The No.10 seed will play the No.7 seed in the tournament, which is currently Florida Atlantic, but could also be North Texas or South Alabama by the end of play Saturday night. If Troy fell to the No.11 seed, it would play the No.6 seed which would still one of those three teams.
The Trojans will looking to avenge a 74-58 loss at South Alabama in early February. The Lady Jags shot over 50 percent in that game while Joanna Harden led all scorers with 19 points.
Harden has scored in double figures in 14 straight and leads the Trojans at 15.3 points per game, the sixth best mark in the Sun Belt. She leads a Troy offense that averages 71.1 points per game, the best mark in the league.
South Alabama (16-12, 9-10) comes into the game off of a 65-69 win at WKU on Wednesday night. The Lady Jags used a 9-0 run over the last 50 seconds and a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line to defeat WKU.
South Alabama allows just 55.2 points per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt, but the Jags scored just 57.0 per game, the second worst mark in the league.
Troy is 13-18 all-time against South Alabama, but 9-5 in Troy. The Jaguars have won four straight in the series and are 14-2 against Troy since the Trojans joined the Sun Belt in 2005-06.
