Trojans Host FIU on Valentine’s Day

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball team (10-15, 5-9) takes on FIU (13-11, 8-7) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Trojan Arena as part of the Valentine's Day Sweetheart Special. Couples can get 2-for-1 tickets by calling the Troy ticket office or purchasing tickets on gameday. The 3.0 Club will also be honored at halftime.

The Trojans are looking to bounce back after a crushing defeat at Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Troy has already faced FIU once this season, falling in Miami, Fla., 61-55, after leading by as many as seven points in the final five minutes. Emil Jones leads the squad with 11.6 points per game this season, and is averaging 19.5 points over the last two. The Trojans are currently in 10th in the country in turnovers, averaging just 10.7 per game. Jones and Hunter Williams are first and second in the Sun Belt in assist/turnover ratio in conference games, at 2.0 and 1.9.

FIU was taken down at North Texas last weekend, 77-67, snapping a two-game winning streak. Three Panthers are averaging double-figures in scoring this season, led by Tymell Murphy's 15.5 points per game. Murphy also leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 per contest.

The Trojans are 6-9 all-time against the Panthers, including the 61-55 loss earlier this year. Troy is currently in a tie for eighth in the Sun Belt with Louisiana-Lafayette, just a half game behind Florida Atlantic. FIU holds the fifth spot in the league, and would earn a first-round bye if the season were to end today.

All student-athletes that have accumulated a GPA of 3.0 or better will be honored at halftime as part of the 3.0 Club.
