OXFORD, Miss. – An early surge by the Rebels proved to be too much, as the Trojans' second half comeback attempt fell short in Troy's 69-54 loss at Ole Miss on Friday night.
"It was obvious that the game was lost on the glass," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "We were really concerned, coming into this game, with getting into foul trouble with the new rules, but we did a good job with that."
Troy cut the lead to as little as 10 points in the second half but could not get it any closer. The story of the night was on the glass, as the Trojans were outrebounded 53-38.
Tevin Calhoun and Kevin Thomas led the Trojans in scoring with 11 points each, while Antoine Myers put in eight of his own. Thomas and Myers each grabbed seven boards.
As a team, the Trojans shot 34.7 percent (17-of-49) and 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from range. Ole Miss shot 25-of-72 (34.7 %) from the floor and 6-of-28 (21.4 %) from beyond the arc.
Ole Miss got on top early, before the Trojans tied the game up at 11 points apiece. From there, the Rebels went on an 8-0 run and never looked back.
