Trojans Compete at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Troy University cross country teams competed at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. More than 800 runners competed on each side, splitting the races into three segments per gender.

"We had some great races today on both sides," said cross country coach Jeff Jenkins. "Both races had around 300 runners and they had some difficulty managing the crowd, but when the race finally opened up, I saw some good running. It's not often that our runners run in crowds this massive, but they were able to still manage some good marks."

The women performed well in their first 5k race of the season, competing in the Blue Race. Julia Ostendorf was the top performer for the Trojans for the fourth time this season, finishing in 19:12.52 and earning 35th in the race.

Mikayla Hodges took home second on the team at 19:36.52, while Samantha Smith placed third on the squad in 20:14.06. Keaton Wallace and Haley Davies were close the whole way, with Wallace pulling ahead at the end to finish in 20:53.11 and Davies finishing in 20:29.55.

Rae Leach took sixth on the team at 21:13.65 and Sara Lane finished seventh at 23:25.56.

Enock Kirui returned to action on Saturday after missing the last two races, finishing first on the men's team and 14th overall in 25:57.70. Shakiel Parker recorded his fastest 8k time of the season, placing second on the team in 28:21.79.

Jake Bagwell finished third on the team at 28:40.49, while Sam Ammons took fourth at 28:48.66. Tim Bulger finished fifth for the Trojans with a time of 28:56.40.

Madison Estes recorded his fastest time of the season, placing sixth on the squad with a time of 29:50.93. Sean Kent took seventh at 29:51.73.

The Trojans return to action next weekend when they host the Coach "O" Invitational on Saturday, October 12.
