Box Score
MONROE, La. –Emil Jones stole the show in overtime, propelling Troy to a 71-64 win over ULM on Saturday afternoon in Monroe, La. Jones outscored the Warhawks in the extra frame, 8-7.
“Emil made some clutch baskets,” said head coach Don Maestri. “Josh Warren made two of the biggest free throws of his life. Everybody scored, and I think the team part of it was probably as significant as anything they've learned this year”
Jones struggled for the first 40 minutes, missing a lot of time due to foul trouble, but he took over when it mattered the most in overtime, scoring eight points and dishing out an assist to Ray Chambers.
Everyone who played scored, led by Hunter Williams' 15 points. Jones would finish with 13, while Jeff Mullahey tied a season-high with 10 points. Mullahey hit 4-of-5 shots from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Troy shot 42.3 percent from the field (22-of-52) and 42.9 percent from range (9-of-21). ULM shot 40 percent from the field and beyond the arc, but struggled from the charity stripe, hitting just 10-of-26 (38.5 percent), including missing the last 12 attempts in regulation and overtime. Troy attacked the glass, outrebounding the Warhawks 38-35.
The Trojans jumped out to a five-point lead midway through the opening half, but the Warhawks came back to take a two-point lead. Troy would respond with a 10-0 run including eight points by Williams, before ultimately taking a 33-27 lead into the break.
Troy next heads to Western Kentucky on Thursday, January 31 to face the Hilltoppers at 7 p.m.
