BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Troy men's basketball team (7-10, 2-4) travels to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on Florida Atlantic University (9-9, 4-3) at 6 p.m. on Thursday night at FAU Arena. The Trojans will be looking for payback, after falling to the Owls at home, 61-54, less than one month ago.
Live stats and audio will be available on the men's basketball page on TroyTrojans.com.
Troy comes into this matchup having won two straight, in defeating UALR and ULM. Last week, the Trojans knocked off the Warhakws on a special night for head coach Don Maestri, as the court at Trojan Arena was named “Court Maestri” in honor of his 30-+ years of service at Troy. Emil Jones continues to pace the squad, finishing the game with 17 points off the bench. Ray Chambers has come on of late, scoring in double-figures in five of the last six games.
Jones leads the team in scoring this season at 10.5 points per game. Hunter Williams is currently in second, at 9.5 points per game, while Antoine Myers is in third with 8.9 points. Chambers has seen an offensive surge in the last month, pushing his scoring average to 7.6 points per game, while he is also tearing down a team-leading 6.1 boards per game. The Trojans continue to protect the ball extremely well, as they are leading the conference and sixth in the nation in turnovers.
Florida Atlantic comes into the day 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the Sun Belt. The Owls recently picked up a big win at Western Kentucky, taking down the Hilltoppers 65-62. Greg Gantt has proved his worth this season, averaging 22.4 points per game, the fourth most in the country. Stefan Moody is chipping in with 14.3 points per game, while Jordan McCoy has set the pace on the glass with 5.9 boards per contest.
Troy is 19-11 all-time against FAU, including a 61-54 loss on December 27, 2012. Myers had his way in that game, hitting 7-of-11 shots from the field and finishing with 18 points. Troy was hurt on the glass, as the Owls outrebounded the Trojans 46-33.
