Troy Hits the Road for Pair of Mid-Week Tilts

TROY, Ala. – Troy wraps up its five-game road trip with a pair of mid-week games at Jacksonville State and Alabama State on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Jacksonville State and 6 p.m. at Alabama State.
Both games will be broadcast live on the Troy IMG Sports Network with local coverage on 94.7 FM and worldwide coverage on TroyTrojans.com or via the Tune-In Radio app on your smartphone by searching for WTBF-FM. Fans can also follow the action on TroyTrojans.com with live stats.
Troy (11-11) enters the week after dropped two-of-three games at UALR over the weekend. Logan Pierce extended his career-long hit streak to 12 games (.457, 21-of-46) in the series at UALR. Boone Shear and Chase Mathis also had solid weeks at the plate for the Trojans batting .500 (6-for-12) and .400 (6-for-15), respectively, over four games last week.
Joe Hernandez (1-0, 6.48) will start on the mound for Troy at Jacksonville State. Hernandez, who will be making his first career start, was solid in two relief appearances at UALR over the weekend. The junior right-hander struck out six and allowed just one hit over 3.2 innings against UALR.
Junior right-hander Cass Abercrombie (1-1, 6.10) will make his third start of the season when the Trojans travel to Montgomery, Ala., on Wednesday to take on Alabama State. Abercrombie has struck out 11 and walked just one in 10.1 innings this season.
The Trojans are 3-1 this season in mid-week games with victories over Alabama, East Carolina and Samford. Troy is averaging 9.3 runs per game in its four mid-week contests which have all taken place at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Gamecocks (8-15) took two-of-three at Eastern Kentucky over the weekend to open Ohio Valley Conference play. Sophomore right-hander Bradley Raulston (0-1, 5.48) will make his fifth start of the season for Jacksonville State on Tuesday.
Alabama State (10-17) is coming off a solid 3-1 week with a pair of conference victories over Mississippi Valley State and a mid-week win over Georgia State. The Hornets, who will be starting freshman right-hander Greg Matthews (2-4, 4.50) in Wednesday's game, have played well at home winning four of their six games at the Wheeler-Watkins Complex this season.
Following the mid-week pair, Troy returns to Riddle-Pace Field for a three-game series against Arkansas State. Saturday's game will be televised live by the Sun Belt Network and first pitch for that contest has been pushed back to 7 p.m.
