Troy, Ala. - Troy women's basketball wraps up a three-game home stretch on Saturday at 4pm when they host the WKU Lady Toppers. The Trojans (2-20, 1-10 Sun Belt) have only two home games remaining to build momentum before heading into the Sun Belt conference tournament.
The Trojans will enter Saturday's matchup coming off of their first conference victory against Louisiana-Lafayette. They will look to extend that success against a WKU (6-17, 3-8) team that is coming off of loss to Middle Tennessee on the road Wednesday. The 67-64 loss to the Blue Raiders extends the Lady Toppers losing streak to five straight going into Saturday.
Sarah McAppion has bounced back from pre-season injury to lead her team in scoring late in the season. McAppion has broken double-digit scoring and averages 13.5 points per game in the past four home games. She currently leads the Sun Belt in 3-point percentage with 45.5 percent.
Senior Tenia Manuel continues to be a dual threat for Troy this season. She leads her team in rebounding averaging 7.1 rebounds per game. She also ranks right behind DeAngela Sword as Troy's second leading scorer with 8.0 points per game this season.
Junior Sophie Kleeman continues to advance her name in the Troy record books this season. She currently ranks ninth in career assists with 209. She only needs one more assist to tie Heather Haney (1993-97) who currently holds eighth place with 210 career assists. Kleeman is also only eight 3-pointers away from tying Chandra Bradford (1999-00) who currently holds the seventh place in career
3-pointers with 89; Kleeman has 81.
The Lady Toppers currently sit one spot above the Trojans in the Eastern division of the conference. The Trojans will be looking for their first victory over WKU since February 14, 2009. WKU leads the overall series record at 11-1; 4-1 in Sartain Hall.
