TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team dropped its opening game at the Quality Inn Classic on Friday night, falling to No.6 Missouri, 4-0, at the Troy Softball Complex.

True freshman Jaycee Affeldt got the nod in the circle for the Trojans (5-1) and was matched up with Missouri (2-0) All-American Chelsea Thomas.

Affeldt (1-1) went 3.2 innings with four hits, three runs, two earned and two strikeouts. Thomas (1-0) went the distance for the Tigers while striking out five.

Hayden Gann and Nikki Hollett each had a hit for the Trojans who gave the 6th-ranked Tigers all they could handle in the finale of Friday's action at the Quality Inn Classic.

The Tigers got on the board first when Affeldt walked two and allowed a single to load the bases for Missouri's Kayla Kingsley who delivered a two-RBI double to put the Tigers up 2-0.

A double by Princess Krebs chased Affeldt in favor of Ashley Rainey. Kingsley reached on an error to greet Rainey, allowing Krebs to score and putting Missouri up 3-0.

Ashley Fleming extended the lead to 4-0 with a solo home run in the fifth inning, marking the first run Rainey surrendered on the season after 17.2 innings pitched.

Rainey finished with 3.1 innings pitched while allowing just two hits and one run. The true freshman struck out three with no walks.

Fleming led Missouri with a 2-for-4 effort while Kingsley had two RBI.

Troy returns to the field tomorrow in what will be a rain shortened Saturday at the Quality Inn Classic. Troy takes to the field at 11:00 a.m. against Ball State and 1:30 p.m. against EKU. To see a completely updated tournament schedule, visit the tournament central link above.
