Troy, Ala. – Troy women's basketball will get a break from being on the road when they take on Florida International on Thursday at 5:15pm as the first game of a three game home stretch. The Trojans only have four home games remaining to build momentum going into the Sun Belt conference tournament.
Troy (1-19, 0-9 Sun Belt) will look to the continued leadership of their seniors through the final stretch of the season. DeAngela Sword still leads her team in scoring averaging 12 points per game. Sword has led her team in scoring in 13 games this season and has recorded double-digits in 15 of the past 20 contests. The contest against the Panthers could be Sword's 50th career game at Troy; her 49th start.
Manuel continues to be a dual threat for Troy this season. She leads her team in rebounding averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. She also ranks behind Sword as Troy's second leading scorer with 8 points per game.
Junior Sarah McAppion will look to continue a streak of success at home as well. She has lead her team in scoring in the past two games in Sartain Hall; totaling 27 points in both contests.
Playing at home has benefited the Trojans more this season as they average 53 points per game while shooting 36% in Sartain Hall. Troy opponents have only escaped Troy with a marginal victory at about 9 points.
The Trojans will be facing one of the top players in the conference against FIU (14-7, 4-4). Jerica Coley leads the conference in scoring with 26 points per game. The closest player to her is Middle Tennessee's Ebony Rowe who total's 17 points per game. Coley is a dual threat as well averaging 7 rebounds a game; making her 10th in the conference in most rebounds.
The matchup between these two programs has historically been close. FIU currently leads the overall series 7-5; 3-2 in Troy. Last time the Trojans hosted the Panthers, FIU escaped with a marginal victory of only four points.
