TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team, sitting in second place in the Sun Belt standings, returns home this weekend as the Trojans host No.19 WKU on Friday and Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
The Trojans won two matches on the road last week, but now return to Sartain Hall where they are 6-2 this season. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. at Sartain Hall where admission is free. Live stats and live video will be available through TroyTrojans.com.
Also, Saturday's match against the Blue Raiders marks senior night as Troy will honor five seniors (Lizzie Clough, Breanna Cullity, Cassie Daniels, Mailande Parker and Devin Von Pingel).
Troy (18-9, 8-3) has already eclipsed the school record for Sun Belt wins, but the Trojans aren't satisfied as they look to lock up the second seed for the Sun Belt Championships, which begin in two weeks.
The Trojans currently sit a game ahead of UALR, a team Troy beat earlier this season. Troy is two games ahead of a trio of teams that are tied for fourth at 6-5 in league play.
Alicia Dukes led the Trojans last week, earning Sun Belt Player of the Week honors after averaging 4.00 kills per set after coming off the Troy bench due to injuries. Dukes recorded 19 kills at Florida A&M and 17 at South Alabama in Troy's two wins.
True freshman Blair Winston leads the Trojans with 3.24 kills per set overall and 3.89 kills per set in Sun Belt play, the fourth best mark in the league.
Alexandra Alexander leads the Sun Belt with 11.52 assists per set in Sun Belt play while Courtney Cohen also leads the Sun Belt with 4.78 digs per set overall.
WKU (26-3, 12-0) enters Friday ranked 19th in country and riding an 18-match winning streak. The Lady Toppers opened Sun Belt play with 31 straight sets won before they dropped their first set of league play to FIU last weekend.
Troy is 0-16 all-time against WKU, including a three-set loss on the road earlier this year. That match was the Sun Belt opener for both teams.
Middle Tennessee (9-20, 6-6) enters Saturday after winning matches at FIU and Florida Atlantic last weekend. The Blue Raiders play at South Alabama on Friday before traveling to Troy.
The Trojans are 2-15 all-time against Middle Tennessee, but picked up their first over the Blue Raiders in Sun Belt play earlier this year. Troy swept Middle Tennessee on the road to move to 1-13 against the Blue Raiders in league play.
