Trojans Drop Tight Match at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy volleyball team dropped a close four-set match on Friday night at Arkansas State, 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 27-25, 23-25), snapping the Trojans three-match winning streak. The Trojans will look to bounce back on Saturday as they continue their road trip at UALR.

Blair Winston led the Trojans (12-8, 3-2) with 15 kills, but posted 12 errors as the Trojans hit just .172 on the match. Four other Trojans were in double-figures in kills, including Devin Von Pingel who hit .407 with 12 kills and just one error on 27 attempts.

Courtney Cohen led the Trojans with 18 digs while Alexandra Alexander has 16 digs and 39 assists for her 12th double-double of the season. Mailande Parke also posted a double with 13 kills and 12 digs for the Trojans.

Arkansas State (13-8, 3-2) was led by Jasmine Terry who posted 22 kills as the Red Wolves hit .212 as team.

The Trojans, despite trailing as late at 21-16, cut their first-set deficit to 22-21. However, after a 24-24 tie, the Red Wolves scored two straight to take a 26-24 first-set win.

Troy hit just .114 in the second set as the Trojans 15-14 lead turned into a 25-18 loss down the stretch. However, the Trojans responded with a 27-25 win in the third set to force a pressure-packed fourth set.

The Trojans again held a lead late at 20-16, but ASU rallied to tie the score at 21-21 before taking at 25-23, match-clinching fourth-set victory. The Trojans hit a match-low .109 in the fourth set despite jumping out to the lead.

The Trojans now take on UALR on Saturday. UALR defeated South Alabama in four sets on Friday night to move to 5-0 in Sun Belt play,
