TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy volleyball team will break from Sun Belt play for the final time on Tuesday as the Trojans travel to Florida A&M for a Tuesday night contest at the Al Lawson Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST.
The Trojans (16-9) are coming off of a 1-1 week in conference play that included a home win over South Alabama and a loss to Louisiana-Lafayette. Troy was led on the week by freshman Blair Winston, who earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors.
The honor is the first of Winston's career and the second for the Trojans this season. The Marietta, Ga., native recorded her second 20-kill game of the season as she posted 20 against South Alabama. Winston had just four errors for a .340 attack percentage as the Trojans defeated their in-state rival in front of a record 1,647 fans.
The outside-hitter was again on her game against Louisiana-Lafayette, posting 16 kills, despite the Cajuns snapping Troy's six-match home winning streak. On the week, Winston averaged 4.50 kills per set, moving her season average up to 3.88 in conference play, the fourth best mark in the SBC.
The Trojans now sit at 7-3 in Sun Belt play, a mark that has Troy second in the Sun Belt standings. The seven conference wins tie a program record with five Sun Belt matches still to play.
Florida A&M (7-8) comes into Tuesday having won five straight matches, all in conference play. The Rattlers last lost on Sept. 18 when they traveled to Sartain Hall and fell in three-sets to Troy.
In that match, Breanna Cullity led the Trojans with 14 kills and just one error for a .394 attack percentage. Troy held the Rattlers to a .009 attack percentage in the 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) sweep.
The mid-September sweep pushed the Trojans to 10-10 all time against Florida A&M. Troy is 4-5 against the Rattlers on the road.
After their trip to Tallahassee, Fla., the Trojans return to Sun Belt play when they travel to take on South Alabama on Saturday.
