Trojans Fall in Four Sets to Louisiana-Lafayette

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team dropped a tight four-set match to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday at home, 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24). The Trojans quieted the Ragin' Cajuns Sun Belt leading service game, but it wasn't enough to pull out a tough match.

Troy (16-9, 7-3) was led by Blair Winston who posted 16 kills. Alexandra Alexander posted a double-double with 42 assists and a career-high 24 digs. Courtney Cohen was also in double figures with 17 digs while Ali Dowdall had 12 digs.

Troy held the Cajuns, who lead the Sun Belt in service aces, to just one ace on the day to go along with 16 service errors. Despite the loss, Troy still sits second overall in the Sun Belt and second in the Sun Belt East Division.

Louisiana-Lafayette (14-11, 5-4) was led by Lavinia Tataran who recorded 12 kills while Mandi Gavin had 53 assists.

The opening set was close early as the two sides were tied nine different times, including at 17-17, but the Cajuns used a three-point run to take a 20-17 lead. ULL hit .318 in the set as they went on to a 25-22 win.

Troy bounced back in the second set, holding the Cajuns to a .176 attack percentage while building an 18-10 lead. Louisiana-Lafayette would cut the lead to 18-14 before a Troy timeout was followed by two Trojan points for a 20-14 lead. Troy went on to take the set, 25-21, to tie the match up.

The third set was close late at 21-21 despite the Trojans hitting just .080. ULL scored a pair to pull ahead 23-21 before taking the set 25-23.

Troy led late in the fourth set at 24-23, but the Cajuns used three straight points to take a 26-24 win and the match.

The Trojans break from conference play for their next match as they travel to Florida A&M on Tuesday. Troy returns to Sun Belt play next Saturday, October 27, when they travel to South Alabama.
