TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team, sitting in second place in the Sun Belt, continues a four-game homestand this weekend as it hosts South Alabama on Thursday and Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.
The Trojans, who are second overall and in the East Division, host South Alabama on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Sartain Hall and Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Admission to both matches is free.
The usual Thursday evening football pep rally will be held in conjunction with Thursday's volleyball match as the Troy dance team will perform at the match and Larry Blakeney will address the crowd after the second set.
Fans are asked to remember that Saturday's match is at a special time, 9:30 a.m., due to the home Troy football game. Also note that the parking lot between Sartain Hall and George Wallace Drive will be closed Saturday morning for football RV parking.
Live stats and live video for both matches will be available at www.TroyTrojans.com.
The Trojans (15-8, 6-2) enter the weekend on a three-match winning streak overall and a five-match winning streak at home. Troy is 5-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming to Auburn.
Troy is led by a pair of players, Blair Winston (3.69) and Kayla Pickart (3.65), who average over 3.00 kills per set in Sun Belt play. The pair ranks seventh and eighth in the conference, respectively, as Troy is the only team with two in the top 10.
Junior setter Alexandra Alexander leads the conference with 11.64 assists per set in conference play as she has topped the 50-assists mark twice in eight games and the 40-assists mark four times.
The Trojans are holding opponents to a .160 attack percentage, the second best mark in the Sun Belt as they lead the league with 15.98 digs per set. Junior libero Courtney Cohen paces the Trojans with her own 4.71 digs per set average, the second best mark in the league.
South Alabama (12-10, 5-3) has won two straight after defeating ULM and North Texas at home last weekend and sits in third place in the Sun Belt East Division. The Jaguars are led by Melissa Waelter who averages 3.10 kills per set.
Troy is 18-17 against South Alabama since moving to Division I in 1993, including a 9-6 mark at home. The two sides split a pair of matches last season, with the road team winning each.
Louisiana-Lafayette (13-11, 4-4) enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak after beating New Orleans on Tuesday night on the heels of two Sun Belt wins over Arkansas State and UALR.
Troy is 6-4 all-time against the Cajuns, including a perfect 4-0 mark at Sartain Hall. Troy defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in four sets at home last season.
