Trojans Set to Take On Hilltoppers

Troy, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team has only a short time to rebound from their close overtime loss to top conference ranked Middle Tennessee before hitting the road again to take on Western Kentucky.

The Trojans (1-13, 0-3) conference schedule will not get any easier in 2012 as they prepare to take on the Lady Toppers (4-10, 2-1) for their second contest of the New Year.

Despite losing the first game of 2012 the Trojans posted a performance in which they hope to build success on to carry them through the remainder of the season, including their best shooting performance of the season.

Seniors DeAngela Sword and Tenia Manuel both posted double-digit points against the Blue Raiders on Thursday. Their performances combined with sophomore Dominique Ross's perfect shooting percentage in the first half gave the Trojans 50% shooting percentage from the floor in regulation time.

“We took our time and didn't get in a hurry,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “We've been more focused on slowing the game down and by doing that we give ourselves a chance to see what's available. I was really proud with our execution on that end. This is definitely something to build on.”

The Trojans will be facing an aggressive Hilltopper defense that recorded a season high 23 turnovers in their victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. The ability to turn the opponent's miscues into points is a strength for the Western Kentucky squad. The Hilltoppers scored 27 of their 49 points off of ULL turnovers.
