Trojans Struggle Against Jaguars

Troy women's basketball fell to South Alabama 63-26 in Mobile on Sunday.

Mobile, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball fell to South Alabama 63-26 on Sunday as the Jaguars posted the best 3-point shooting the Trojans have faced this season.
Trojan's Brooke Bowie, DeAngela Sword and Sarah McAppion led their team in scoring as they each recorded four points. It is the first time Bowie has led the Trojans in scoring; McAppion's third time in four games.
Tenia Manuel led her Trojans in rebounding for the 12th time this season recording nine total rebounds against the Jaguars. Manuel now has 448 career rebounds and is only 3 away from being the 10th career leader in total rebounds in school history.
Troy struggled to slow down South Alabama's Sandra Peterson who ended the evening with 17 total points after hitting 50% (5-10) from behind the 3-point line. Fellow Jaguar El Mansa ended the night with 15 total points after shooting 50% (3-6) from behind the 3-point line as well.
Troy (1-19, 0-9) suffered early at the hand of South Alabama's (12-9, 5-4) 3-point shooting. The Jaguars went on a 14-0 run to start the contest with Sandra Peterson hitting three 3-pointers. Troy's Ieva Nagy put an end to the early run with a 3-point field goal of her own. The Trojans continued to fight back in the first half but after a 10-0 run by the Jaguars; Troy went into halftime trailing 32-9.
South Alabama ended the first half with eight 3-point field goals; the most any Troy opponent has posted in a single half. Troy's nine points is also the fewest the Trojans had scored in a single half this season.
The Jaguar shooting streak continued into the second half with South Alabama hitting a 12-2 run in the first six minutes of the second half building their lead to 44-11. The Trojans would not be able to answer back as they went on to only record 26 points; the fewest amount of points the Trojans have ever recorded under head coach Michael Murphy.
South Alabama went on to claim victory over Troy with a 63-26 finish; the largest deficit for the Trojans this season.
The Trojans now have four days to rebound and prepare before hosting FIU on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 5:15pm in Sartain Hall. The game will be the first of a three game home stretch for the Trojans.
