Troy women's basketball will travel to take on MTSU on Wednesday at 7pm.
Game Notes
Troy, Ala. – Troy women's basketball will be back on the road after completing a three game home stretch when they travel to take on Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The game is the first of a two game road campaign for the Trojans.
Troy (1-17, 0-7 Sun Belt) will rely on the further success of its guards Sarah McAppion and DeAngela Sword against Middle Tennessee (16-5, 8-0). McAppion has led her team in scoring in the past two contests where she combined to total 27 points and has shot higher than .500 from both the field and behind the 3-point line. McAppion is currently ranked first in the conference at 3-point shooting percentage with a .600 3-point shooting percentage.
Sword will also look to further her success scoring as she currently leads the team averaging 12.5 points per game. She has broken the double-digit scoring mark in 13 of 17 games this season and has led the team in scoring 11 times.
The Trojans look to continue their rebounding success. In their last time out against ULM the Trojans had their second best rebounding performance of the season totaling 47 rebounds, led by their leading rebounder Tenia Manuel who totaled nine rebounds and averages 6.7 per game.
Troy will need to stop Middle Tennessee's Ebony Rowe. Rowe currently leads her team in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game and rebounding with 9.6 rebounds per game. Her success has gained her the title Sun Belt Player of the Week three times this season.
The Trojans are still looking for their first win against the Blue Raiders in the series history while also looking to snap a Blue Raider winning streak. Troy is 0-7 in Murfreesboro, while MTSU is 57-1 at home against conference teams.
Troy hosted the Blue Raiders in Sartain Hall earlier in the season in which the Trojans led Middle Tennessee 27-19 going into half time. However, Middle Tennessee would go on to claim a 72-66 but not without taking the game into overtime first.
“That was a game we probably should have won at home,” head coach Michael Murphy said. “I think our kids will go into the game with a lot of confidence and spirit after our last meeting.”
