Troy, Ala. – After a full week off the Troy (1-14, 0-4) women's basketball team looks to rebound from a 0-4 conference start when they host in-state conference rival South Alabama (10-6, 3-1).
The last time the Trojans were in Sartain Hall they took the top conference ranked Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders into overtime. Troy will be looking to build on that home court success after falling to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on the road last week.
“We have a week off which is what we really need,” said head coach Michael Murphy.
“It will give us a chance to rejuvenate and recharge. It really is tough for our players to keep playing games so close together consistently. Having time off will help us from a physical stand point.”
In their last home contest the Trojans had real success shooting, hitting 50% of their shots at the end of regulation play. DeAngela Sword and Tenia Manuel both broke double digit scoring, recording their second highest scoring contest as Sword totaled 19 and Manuel 14.
Overall the Trojans hit their highest scoring mark of the season with 66 points the last time they were in front of their own crowd.
Sword currently leads the Trojans in scoring this season averaging 13.6 points a game while Manuel leads in rebounding averaging 6.6 rebounds a game.
Troy will need to find away to slow down South Alabama's Mansa El and Taylor Ammons. Ammons currently leads the Jaguars in rebounding as she totals 8.4 rebounds a game, while El leads her team in scoring with 10.6 points a game.
Troy is set to take on South Alabama on Saturday in Sartain Hall as the first half of a double header matchup. Tipoff for the women's game is set for 5:15pm.
