Trojans Streak Grows to Five

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team ran its current winning streak to five-matches as Louisiana-Lafayette visited Sartain Hall and fell, 3-1. The win also moved the Trojans to 5-0 at Sartain Hall on the season.
The Trojans return to the court next weekend when they travel to Arkansas to continue Sun Belt play at UALR and Arkansas State.
TROY 3, LOUISIANA 1 (16-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19)
The Trojans dropped their first set in five matches but recovered to win their second straight Sun Belt match. Troy (12-4, 2-0) had three players post double-figure kills with Natasha Kolunija's 14 leading the way. Kolunija, Devin Von Pingel (11 kills) and Kayla Pickart (12 kills) all hit over .300 as the Trojans hit .328 as a team.
Alexandra Alexander posted a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs. Courtney Cohen led the way with 19 digs for the Trojans who held the Cajuns to a .180 attack percentage.
The Trojans and Cajuns (8-10, 0-2) played a tight first set early with the score being within one at 11-10. However, the Ragin' Cajuns hit .389 in the set as they grew their lead to three at 17-14 before a five-point run made the score 22-14. The Trojans couldn't overcome the deficit as they fell in the first set, 25-16.
The second set was a much different story as the Trojans turned their .188 first-set attack percentage into a .448 mark with 15 kills and just two errors in the second frame. The Cajuns on the other hand, went from .389 in the first set to -.029 in the second set.
The two sides were within two points at 8-6, but Troy pulled out to a six-point lead at 12-6 and never looked back. The Trojans never looked back as they even things up with a 25-11 second-set win.
The Trojans continued their hot hitting after the break as they posted a .462 attack percentage in the set thanks to 13 kills and just one error. The set was close early as the two sides found themselves tied on six occasions, however the latest was at 6-6. Troy jumped up 9-6 and maintained the three-point lead all the way to 14-11.
The Trojans would get up as much as seven at 21-14 before taking the set, 25-17.
The two sides found themselves tied five different times in the fourth set, but the latest came at 8-8. At that point, Troy jumped up by three at 11-8 before pulling ahead by as much as six at 18-12 and the final score of 25-19.
