SUN BELT CONFERENCE RELEASE
A pair of Trojans earned recognition from the Sun Belt Conference on Monday for their play in Troy's game at No. 14 Arkansas on Saturday.
Senior defensive back LaDarrius Madden was named co-Defensive Player of the Week by the league and sophomore Corey Robinson was named Offensive Player of the Week. It was the first time Madden has earned the league's weekly honor and the fourth for Robinson.
Madden made the most of his first start of the year, with a huge game against the Razorbacks. He recorded six total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. He also had a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter to bring the Trojans within 10 points in the game. He then recovered a fumble later in the fourth quarter to give the Trojans a chance to draw within one score.
“It is an honor to get something like this,” Madden said. “I just go out and try to help my team every week.”
The interception was the fourth in 14 games in Madden's career and the fumble recovery was his third. The defensive score was the first for Troy since the 2009 season when linebacker Boris Lee returned a pick 30 yards for a touchdown against ULM.
“I heard about it a lot last year when I had the interception against FAU and got caught by the tight end,” Madden said. “This time I was determined to get it into the end zone. I knew that when I picked up a couple of key blocks, I could see the pylon and it was my goal to get there.”
Robinson established new career highs for pass attempts (63), completions (36) and rushing yards (33) in leading the Trojans offense against the Razorbacks. His 373 passing yards were the third most of his career and he moved up two spots on the Troy career passing list, becoming just the sixth player in school history with more than 4,000 career passing yards (4,357). His three TD passes moved him into sixth on the Troy career list with 32. Robinson helped Troy out-gain the Razorbacks, who came in ranked 8th in the nation in total offense, 457 yards to 454.
The Trojans will make their 2011 home debut this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against rival Middle Tennessee in the annual “Battle for the Palladium”. The game will be regionally televised by CSS and CST as the Sun Belt Conference Game of the Week.
In addition to the “Battle for the Palladium”, Saturday is also Worldwide Trojan Pride Day for all fans and alumni of the University. All fans are encouraged to gather between Sartain Hall and throughout Tailgate Terrace for “Trojan Walk” which will start at 1:15 p.m.
The Troy Football pregame radio show will be live from Tailgate Terrace from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Saturday with “The Voice of the Trojans” Barry McKnight as well as Jerry Miller.
Also, prior to kickoff on Saturday, there will be ceremonies held on the field to officially dedicate Larry Blakeney Field. The playing surface at Veterans Memorial Stadium was named in honor of the Trojans' long-time head coach in April.
