MOBILE, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – With just two weeks before the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Troy University track and field took an extra week to work student-athletes in events they can compete at during the championships.
The Trojans faced student-athletes from Auburn, Birmingham-Southern and South Alabama at the Jaguar Quad Meet on Saturday; walking away with several season-bests and four overall titles.
Neko Freeman, although he did not run a season-best time, claimed the title 100-meters with a time of 10.49 seconds, finishing almost 0.20 seconds ahead of his closest competitor – Clay Porter of Auburn. On the women's side, sophomore Ja-Courtney Alexander ran away with the 100-meter race as she crossed the line in a time of 11.78 seconds, almost a full second ahead of her closest competitor in the race. The time is the second-fastest time this season run by Alexander by just 0.06 seconds.
Larry Henry joined the track duo in capturing an overall title at the Jaguar Quad. The sophomore won the high jump competition with a clearance of 2.00 meters, while teammate Terrell Irons finished third with a season-best jump of 1.90 meters on Saturday.

In the men's 800-meter race, Shane George ran the seventh-fastest time of the season for the Trojans, and the second fastest time of the season for the junior, when he crossed the line in a time of 2:01.20. Meanwhile, on the women's side, freshman Haley Davis ran the fifth-fastest time of the season for the Trojans, and the third fastest time of her career, as she crossed the line in a time of 2:34.34.
Alec Hamm turned in the third best time of the season for the Trojans in the 1500-meters with a fifth-place finish on Saturday. The junior finished with a time of 4:14.88, the fastest time this season for Hamm and a full second ahead of the previous third best time of the season for TROY. In the women's 1500-meters, senior Sylvia Chirchir finished third overall with a time of 4:59.41, four seconds away from second place overall.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Grant Bullington turned in his best time of the season with a finish of 15.37 seconds; followed closely by teammate Brandon Norwood with a time of 15.38 seconds. On the women's side, Ariel Cavazos finished second in the 400-meter hurdles by recording the second fastest time for the Trojans in the event this season – crossing the line in a time of 1:06.70.
The Trojans' 4x100-meter relay team on the men's side ran the fourth-fastest time of the season; as the team of Freeman, Stanley Arukwe, Curtis and Chris Upshaw crossed the line in a time of 41.32 seconds. On the women's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of Cavazos, Alexander, Amiracle Watson and Adria Hill ran the fastest time of the season for the Trojans as they crossed the line in a time of 46.56 seconds.
