WKU Visits for Huge Sun Belt Series

TROY – TROY – Just one game separates Sun Belt leading Troy and second place Western Kentucky when the two squads meet beginning Friday for a three-game league series at Riddle-Pace Field.

The two squads have both had outstanding starts to the 2011 season and both are currently ranked in the top 40 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.

First pitch for Friday night's opener is set for 6 pm. Junior right-hander Tyler Ray will toe the the rubber for the Trojans (27-10, 11-4). He holds the seventh-best ERA in all of college baseball (1.26) and leads the nation in wins with eight.

WKU (25-13, 10-5) counters with sophomore lefty Tanner Perkins (6-1). His 1.95 earned run average is second to Ray's in the Sun Belt.

The Trojans halted a three-game losing skid on Wednesday with an 8-0 home win over Alabama A&M, but Western Kentucky has won 8-of-10 including a comeback win over Kentucky on Tuesday 11-8.

Troy will send LHP Ryan Sorce (4-3, 3.35) to the mount to face Justin Hageman (6-3, 2.44) on Saturday, while freshman Jimmy Hodgskin (2-3, 3.50) will get the nod in the finale against Brian Edelen (3-1, 4.23).

Bobby Pierce is in his ninth season at the helm of the Troy program. He holds an 844-400 record in 23 seasons as a head coach. His Trojans teams are 11-6 since 2003 against the Toppers.

Troy leads the all-time series with WKU 16-9.

Saturday's game is set for 6 pm and Sunday's Easter finale will begin at 1 pm.
