Former Troy University golfer Josh Broadaway will make his PGA Tour debut today when he tees off in The Honda Classic at the PGA National Championship Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The Albany, Ga., native and 2000 Troy University graduate, played his way into the field for the event this week through qualifying.
Broadaway, who uses a cross-handed grip and was the first player off the tee Monday morning, made seven birdies, and a double bogey, losing his tee ball at the par-5 13th hole. He finished with a round of 66 at the Mayacoo Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach to earn his spot in the field.
Broadaway will play with Bobby Gates and Steven Bowditch in the first two rounds of the tournament, which will be televised by the Golf Channel from 2-5 p.m. during the opening rounds. NBC will televise play on Saturday and Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
Bowditch is a native of Australia and finished ninth at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Gates is a native of Gainesville, Fla., and a product of Texas A&M University. He finished tied for fifth last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Cancun, Mexico.
The trio is scheduled for a 12:09 p.m. tee time today and will start at 8:29 a.m. on Friday.
