TROY, Ala. – The Troy University women's basketball team opens a three-game homestand this weekend, playing out the home portion of their schedule, beginning with the University of Denver on Saturday evening. The game will tip at 5:15 p.m. inside Sartain Hall.
Troy (5-19, 2-9 Sun Belt) will look to rebound from a three-game losing streak against Denver (14-10, 6-5 Sun Belt) on Saturday night. The Trojans have been tied or led at halftime in their last two games, but have been unable to hold onto the lead late in the second half.
Denver leads the all-time series with the Trojans 6-1, with all seven of their meetings taking place since both teams joined the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans won the first meeting back in 2006, but Denver has won the last six – including all five meetings that have taken place at Sartain Hall.
Troy is led by senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) in both scoring and rebounding. The senior is averaging over 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per game from her post position. She has gone over 1,000 career points and became the school's all-time career rebounding leader with 723 career rebounds on Wednesday night against South Alabama.
Junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) and Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) continue to support McNair in scoring, as Sword averages over 13 points and Manuel eight points per game. Meanwhile, sophomore Sophie Kleeman (Newcastle, Australia/Newcastle HS) leads the conference in minutes played (38.8 per game) while she has played 436 out of a possible 440 minutes in Sun Belt Conference action this season.
The game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM beginning at 5 pm with the pregame show courtside at Sartain Hall, followed by the tip at 5:15 pm. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's program Saturday night.
