Troy women's basketball will be back at home when they take on Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
Game Notes
Troy, Ala. - Troy (1-9, 0-0) women's basketball will be back on their home court on Wednesday to take on the Kennesaw State University Owls (4-7, 1-1). The Owls will be the second straight Atlantic Sun Conference team the Trojans will have faced this season after traveling to take on the Mercer University Bears last Sunday.
Wednesday's meeting will only be the third meeting between the two programs. Troy claimed victory in the first meeting 58-57 in Kennesaw, Georgia on December, 19 2007. However, the Owls claimed victory in the last meeting 64-58 in Sartain Hall on December 3, 2008.
The Trojans will look to DeAngela Sword and Tenia Manuel to continue their success against the Owls. Sword has recorded double digits in 9 of the last 10 games this season including a season high of 21 points in her performance against in-state rival Alabama State and averages 13.8 points a game. Manuel lead the Trojans in rebounds averaging 7.4 rebounds a game. Manuel has also broken double digit points in three separate contests and both Trojans have already claimed double-doubles earlier this season.
Jasmine Pitts will need to build on her success against Kennesaw State. The Naval Academy transfer recorded double-digit points in her first start as a Trojan. She already recorded double-digits earlier this season in her first game played as a Trojan in the victory over Alabama State.
The Trojans will need to stop a strong Kennesaw State attack led by their guard Taylor Mills. The redshirt freshman is currently averaging 14.6 points per game this season. Troy will also have to find a way to handle the Owls leading rebounder Sametria Gideon who averages 9.1 rebounds a game.
The Trojans will be looking for their first home victory this season against a Kennesaw State team who has faced challenges on the road. The Owls are 2-5 on opposing courts.
“We are really making progress,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “Our best basketball is ahead of us we just have to maintain our focus and keep our eye on the prize. We can't look back or look forward; we have to focus on today.”
Troy tips off against Kennesaw State Wednesday at 7pm.
