Trojans Fall in Straight Sets

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy University volleyball team closed out a tough weekend with a road loss at Arkansas State on Saturday night.

ARKANSAS STATE 3, TROY 0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-20)
For the second night in a row, the Trojans (12-6, 2-2) were their own worst enemy as they managed just a .034 attack percentage. The Trojans recorded 23 kills and 20 errors. Arkansas State in comparison, hit .305 with 41 kills and 12 errors.
Natasha Kolunija paced the Trojans with nine kills while Devin Von Pingel's .400 attack percentage on four kills and no errors led the squad. Courtney Cohen's 16 digs led the Trojans who were barely out-blocked, 7.0 to 6.0.
The Trojans were within two in the first set at 12-10, but the Red Wolves (13-6, 4-1) scored five of the next seven to go up 17-12 on their way to a 25-17 first-set win.
One big run did the Trojans in the second set. They were down by two at 7-5, but the Red Wolves used 10 straight to go up 17-5 before taking the set, 25-11. Troy hit just -.111 in the half while ASU hit .360.
The final set was the closest of the match as the Trojans were in it at 22-19, but the Red Wolves score three of four to close the match with a 25-20 win.
