LAFAYETTE, La. – The Troy University women's basketball team hit the road Wednesday night to face the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in Sun Belt Conference action, playing their first conference road game of the season.
Troy (4-11, 1-1 Sun Belt) is the midst of a modest two-game winning streak and are looking to win back-to-back conference games for the first time since last January. The Trojans venture to Earl K. Long Gymnasium, where they are 1-3 all-time in the series history. They recorded their only win of the series in Lafayette during the 2008-09 season, a season in which the Trojans swept three games from Louisiana-Lafayette (8-7, 1-1 Sun Belt).
The series is tied 4-4 all-time, with Louisiana-Lafayette won the last meeting in Lafayette last season. This year marks the third consecutive season that the Trojans have traveled south for a Sun Belt Conference game.
This season, the Ragin' Cajuns are led by Mercedes Johnson in both scoring and rebounding. She is averaging nearly 14 points and seven rebounds per game this season. The Ragin' Cajuns will be looking to win their second consecutive conference game, as they are coming off a victory over North Texas.
Meanwhile, the Trojans are led by senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) and junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) at 13.5 points per game. McNair is also the leading rebounder, and second-leading rebounder in the conference, at 9.6 rebounds per game. She recently became just the second person in school history to score over 900 career points and 650 career rebounds at the Division I level.
The game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM beginning at 6:45 pm with the pregame show.
