Trojans Look to Snap Streak Against In-State Foe

Troy and South Alabama are tied 15-all in their long-standing series

TROY, Ala. – The series dates back to the 1975-76 season, and Wednesday night one of the teams will break the deadlock in the series that is tied 15-all when the Troy University women's basketball team plays host to the University of South Alabama.
Troy (4-16, 1-6 Sun Belt) is the midst of a five-game losing streak, and looking to bounce back against their in-state and conference rival. The Trojans are led by DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) in scoring, as the junior is averaging 13.9 points per game and 39 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) is averaging 13.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season for the Trojans. She enters the game Wednesday night just 21 points and nine rebounds shy of joining the 1000 point-700 rebound club at the school. She would become just the second member of the club since the school went to Division I in 1993.
Meanwhile, junior Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) looks to continue her success from last week. Manuel averaged 16 points per game in a pair of road games for the Trojans against Middle Tennessee and WKU, while also connecting on each of her three-point and free throw opportunities.
The game on Wednesday is the last home game for a week for the Trojans as they hit the road to ULM this weekend. Fans in attendance will have a chance to get a Troy Athletics t-shirt, as shirts will be tossed into the stands throughout the game.
The game can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 pm with Buddy Johnson providing the play-by-play for the contest.
