Trojans Fall to WKU on the Road

The Trojans fought back from a 25-point deficit in the first half

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Troy University women's basketball fell to Western Kentucky University 92-76 in Sun Belt Conference action Saturday afternoon at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) led Troy (4-16, 1-6 Sun Belt) with 19 points as she hit 90 (9-of-10) percent from the free throw line. She paced three players in double figures as junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) added 17 points and junior Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) added 15 points in the loss.
Janae Howard led all scorers in the game for WKU (8-11, 5-2 Sun Belt) with a career-high 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor and 7-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. Arnika Brown added 24 points and LeTeira Owens 12 for the Lady Toppers.
WKU shot 52.3 (34-for-65) percent from the floor and 45.8 (11-for-24) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 76.5 (13-for-17) percent from the free throw line and won the rebounding battle 37-25.
Meanwhile, Troy shot 49.1 (26-for-53) percent from the floor and 53.8 (7-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 89.5 (17-for-19) percent from the free throw line.
The Trojans found themselves down by as many as 25 in the first half, before they were able to battle back and trim the deficit down to 12 before WKU was able to extend it back to 18 at the intermission.
The Trojans continued to fight in second half to get back into the contest, having two possessions with 12 minutes remaining to get the game down to single digits. However, WKU had an answer for every Troy run Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans return to action Wednesday night against in-state rival, the University of South Alabama. The game tips at 7 p.m. at Sartain Hall, and can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM beginning with the pregame show at 6:45.
