TROY, Ala. – The Troy University women's basketball team will look to snap a three-game losing streak Wednesday night when they take on Middle Tennessee State University at the Murphy Center. The game is set to tip at 7 pm in Murfreesboro, on the campus of Middle Tennessee.
Troy (4-14, 1-4 Sun Belt) has dropped their last three games in Sun Belt Conference play, including a 72-57 loss to North Texas on Saturday at home. The game on Wednesday will mark the third game on the road in the last two weeks for the Trojans in conference play.
The Trojans will look to snap that streak against Middle Tennessee (14-4, 5-0 Sun Belt), the team leading the East Division by two games early in the season. The Blue Raiders lost four starters from last year's team, and this year they are led by freshman Ebony Rowe at 16.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
The only starter back from last season is senior Anne Marie Lanning who is second on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game. She is also connected on 41.8 (41-for-98) percent of her three-point opportunities, and is hitting 93.2 (41-for-44) percent from the free throw line. The Blue Raiders are outscoring their opponents by an average of just 6.7 points per game this season, a far cry from last season in which they were winning by double digits.
Meanwhile, the Trojans are led by junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) at 14.3 points per game, including averaging 17.6 points per game in conference play. The junior is among the league leaders in scoring and three-point shooting, as she is shooting 38.9 (21-for-54) percent from beyond the arc. She enters the contest on Wednesday night having scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games.
Senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) continues to climb the charts at the school, as she is averaging 13.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game – good for third in the Sun Belt Conference. She is also averaging 14.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in conference play this season. McNair is just 46 points shy of 1,000 career points and 16 rebounds shy of 700 career rebounds, which would make her just the second player in Troy's Division I history to join that club.
The game will tip at 7 p.m. at the Murphy Center and can be heard on WTBF-94.7 FM, beginning at 6:45 pm with the pregame show.
