TROY, Ala. – The Troy University women's basketball returns home for the first time in a week to face the University of North Texas in Sun Belt Conference action. The game is set to tip at 4 pm inside Sartain Hall on the Troy University campus.
Troy (4-13, 1-3 Sun Belt) is looking to end a modest two-game losing streak, both games taking place on the road, that began last week. The Trojans fell to Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday, before falling to West Division-leading UALR on Saturday.
The Trojans last played at home January 2, a game in which they defeated Florida Atlantic on CSS in their only home television game of the season. It was also the third home victory of the season for the Trojans, as they have recorded a 3-3 record at home.
Junior DeAngela Sword (Montgomery, Ala./Pensacola JC) leads the way for the Trojans at 14.5 points per game, including averaging 19.5 points per game in conference action – second best average in the Sun Belt Conference. Last week, the junior scored a career-high 26 points against Louisiana-Lafayette and averaged 22.5 points per game in the two games last week.
Meanwhile, senior Donette McNair (New London, Conn./New London HS) is 65 points shy of 1,000 career points as she enters the game averaging 13.0 points per game this season. She is also third in the Sun Belt Conference and in the top 60 in the nation in rebounding at 9.1 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Sophie Kleeman (Newcastle, Australia/Newcastle HS) will look to snap out of her shooting slump over the last two games, as she went 3-for-20 in the two losses. However, she is among the league leaders in assists (3.6 per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio.
North Texas (4-14, 1-4 Sun Belt) leads the all-time series 6-3, but the Trojans have won the last two games in the series including last season at home. The Trojans also won their first game in Denton two years ago as junior Tenia Manuel (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg HS) recorded her first career double-double as a freshman with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The game will hit the airwaves at 3:45 pm (CST) Saturday afternoon with Buddy Johnson providing the play-by-play action on WTBF-94.7 FM. The Troy University Media Relations Office will also provide live stats and live video, available on TroyTrojans.com.
