Troy Opens Up Conference Play in Louisiana

Trojans take on Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM in conference road tests to open slate

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team opens conference play this weekend when they head to Louisiana, facing Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM.
"We have been preparing for this weekend for months," head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "The team is very excited to begin conference play. We've cleaned some things up and we are going to have a tough weekend ahead, but we are ready to face Lafayette on Friday and Monroe on Saturday."
The Trojans will face the Ragin' Cajuns of Lafayette Friday night at 5 p.m., a team the Trojans have had success against in the past. Troy has a record of 5-1 with Louisiana-Lafaytte since 2005 and are 2-1 in Lafayette.
Troy will face the Warhawks of ULM Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., another team the Trojans have had success against in the past. the Trojans have a 5-1 record with ULM since 2005 as well and a 2-0 record in Monroe.
The Trojans finished the 2009 season with a 7-10 conference record, leaving them one game short of making the conference tournament. Troy hopes to bounce back this season and keep the momentum going from their second place finish this past weekend in the Owl Invitational and make the conference tournament this year.
Troy is led by senior Megan Henderson and sophomore Devin Von Pingel. Henderson has recorded 463 assists, averaging 9.45 assists per set, 52 kills, 14 service aces, and 108 digs. Von Pingel has recorded 133 kills, averaging 2.61 kills per set, 14 digs, and 34 total blocks so far this season.
