TROY, Ala. - The Troy University volleyball team plays their first home matches this weekend when they host the 2010 Troy University Spiketacular. The tournament will feature Evansville, McNeese State, Troy and Western Illinois.
The tournament starts at 10 am on Saturday morning, with Troy opening their play on Saturday when they face Western Illinois at 12:30 pm in Sartain Hall. This is the first tournament that the Trojans have hosted under current head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick.
The Trojans (1-3) will look to bounce back from road losses suffered over the past week, two at the War Eagle Invitational and a road loss to Samford Wednesday night. The Trojans are led by senior Megan Henderson and sophomore Devin Von Pingel.
Henderson continues to climb the all-time assists chart at Troy, where she currently sits fourth with 3,251 assists. She also ranks seventh in the Sun Belt Conference this season with 98 assists in four matches. Meanwhile, Von Pingel leads the Trojans with 38 kills and a .296 attack percentage on the season, both among the leaders of the Sun Belt Conference.
The tournament begins at 10 am with McNeese State and Evansville, followed by the Trojans concluding day one. The final day of the tournament (Sunday), opens with the Trojans facing McNeese State at 9 am; followed by Evansville and Western Illinois at 11:30. The day concludes with Western Illinois taking on McNeese State at 2 pm, followed by Troy and Evansville at 4 pm.
After the weekend home stand, the Trojans will face Auburn University Tuesday night at 7 pm in Sartain Hall. The Trojans will then be on the road for an eight game streak before returning back to Troy.
