Trojans Fall To Kennesaw State At Owl Invitational

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Troy University volleyball team fell to host Kennesaw State 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-21) in the second match of the Owl Invitational, despite a valiant defensive effort with 41 total digs.
The Trojans found themselves down early in the opening set to Kennesaw State, falling behind by as many as seven before the visitors trimmed it to 12-10 midway through the set. Trailing 11-4, the Trojans went on a 6-1 run behind a pair of kills from Brittany McClelland and a service ace from Alexandra Alexander.
However, Kennesaw State opened the set back up, taking an 18-12 lead before the Trojans fought back to 21-19 on a kill from McClelland. Unfortunately, Kennesaw State scored four of the next six points to take the opening set.
In the second set, the two teams played close for the first 12 points as Kennesaw State held a slim 7-5 lead. However, the Owls went on an 18-9 run to close out the second set.
The Trojans fought back after intermission in the third set, as they opened the set matching point-for-point. After falling behind 13-9, the Trojans fell behind by as many as six before beginning to mount a comeback. Trailing 23-17, a kill from Alexander trimmed the deficit to 23-18.
After Kennesaw State pushed the lead to 24-18, another kill by Alexander trimmed the lead to 24-19, followed by two attack errors (one of which was a product of a block) pulled the Trojans to within three, 24-21. However, Kennesaw State put the game away on the next point to end the match.
Courtney Cohen led the way in the Trojans' defensive attack with 11 digs, while Victoria Rogoschewsky added nine digs and Kayla Giles seven in the loss. Meanwhile, McClelland led the way with three block assists, while Megan Henderson added a pair.
Rogoschewsky led the offensive attack with eight kills, while Devin Von Pingel added seven kills in the loss. Meanwhile, Henderson led the way for the Trojans with 31 assists and five digs.
