Troy University football fans throughout the state of Alabama, and even beyond state boundaries, will be able to tune in the Trojans this fall on the newly expanded Troy/ISP Sports Network.
The network for the 2010 season starts with flagship station WTBF-FM 94.7 in Troy, but includes WYDE-FM/AM, whose 100,000-watt signal covers Birmingham and reaches as far north as the Tennessee border.
The newest affiliate on the network marks the return of Trojans Football to Mobile. WABB-AM 1480 in Mobile will not only carry Trojans football, but also Troy men's basketball this winter.
“The Dittman family, and staff at WABB, are thrilled to welcome Troy football and basketball to the Mobile airwaves,” WABB General Sales Manager Cathy Kaufman said. “We know that Mobile is home to many Troy grads and fans and now they will have a place to call home for Troy athletics.
“Troy and WABB are both institutions rich in history and tradition – a perfect match. We are very excited about this partnership and wish the Trojans a winning 2010 season.”
WABB will cover the Mobile County side of Mobile Bay, joining with WHEP-AM 1310 and WHEP-FM 92.5 in Foley covering Baldwin County and into the Florida panhandle.
“Troy has such a large, active alumni base in the Mobile area, and they've told us they want a consistent, reliable radio station through which they could follow the Trojans,” Barry McKnight, “The Voice of the Trojans,” said. “Toward that end, we identified – in WABB – a broadcast entity that has consistently built a long-standing reputation in the area for just that: consistency and reliability.
“Troy understands the unique relationship we hold with each of our affiliate stations as both a client and as a programming source. With the staff at WABB, they've shown us the dedication they show all their clients, while giving us the most efficient platform for our Trojan Athletics programming. We couldn't be more pleased!”
The Troy Network also reaches into Georgia with WDAK-AM 560 in Columbus. Other affiliates in Alabama include WOOF-AM 560 in Dothan, WVVL-FM 101.1 in Enterprise, WMRK-FM 107.9 in Montgomery, WOPP-AM 1290 in Opp and WHBB-AM 1490 in Selma.
“By adding Mobile to our state coverage, Troy now has a radio network comparable to that of Auburn and Alabama,” Troy Network General Manager Eric Williamson said. “Troy now has a strong presence in all three major radio markets in the state and the largest radio network in the Sun Belt Conference. Having that presence is huge for our fan base and sponsors as they look to not only follow the Trojans, but brand themselves with the Troy Athletic program.”
The Troy/ISP Network will kickoff the 2010 season on Tuesday night, August 31, with the first installment of “Trojan Talk”, a weekly visit with Trojans head football coach Larry Blakeney. “Trojan Talk” will originate each Tuesday night through football season, except Oct. 5, from the Santa Fe Cattle Company on Highway 231 in Troy.
The Trojans will take to the field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. when they host the Falcons of Bowling Green State University. McKnight, back for his ninth season as the “Voice of the Trojans” will be joined again this season by color analyst Jerry Miller (18th season) and sideline reporter Chris Blackshear (sixth season).
The Troy/ISP Network will begin each football broadcast with a two-hour pre-game show. The first hour of that broadcast before home games will originate from the newly renovated Tailgate Terrace just outside the entrance to Veterans Memorial Stadium
