The Troy baseball team inked three junior college players to join the team for next season this week. Garrett McHenry of Bevill State Community College, Daniel "Boone" Shear of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College and Tyson Workman of Pensacola Junior College will look to fill the expected gaps on the team for the 2011 campaign.
Troy head coach Bobby Pierce is excited about what these transfer athletes bring to the table, and he is looking forward to them joining the team.
"We are pleased to add these three quality players to our program," Pierce said. "We actually recruited Tyson out of high school and continued that effort during his stay at Pensacola Junior College, so we are excited about him finally becoming a Trojan. He should have an excellent career here in Troy as both a hitter and a pitcher.
"We have seen Boone Shear grow and develop from his high school playing days at Pace through his two year career at LBW and expect him to contribute right away, especially with his hard-nosed style of play and his hitting ability. Garrett McHenry is a solid left-hand pitching prospect that should immediately bolster our pitching staff and contend for quality innings. He has pitched well in junior college and his coaches at Bevill speak highly about his competitiveness and work ethic. These three players will be a great supplement to our November recruiting class and combined they will help replace the quality players we lost to graduation and professional baseball from our 2010 team."
